Police in Columbia County were initially called at around 4:15 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, with reports of a robbery at a convenience store in the city of Hudson, located near Second and Warren streets.
The 57-year-old victim told Hudson Police that a man had stolen $160 cash right out of his hand before fleeing the store.
After reviewing store surveillance footage, investigators identified the suspect from previous encounters as 32-year-old Malcolm McNeil, of New York City, police said.
On Wednesday, Nov. 9, police spotted McNeil at the Hudson Amtrak station and confronted him.
That’s when McNeil attempted to flee, running up Allen Street, according to police. An officer arrested him a short time later after a brief struggle.
There were no reports of injuries from either the robbery or the arrest, police said.
Investigators believe McNeil was planning to flee the area.
He was charged with third-degree robbery, a felony, and resisting arrest, a misdemeanor.
Following his arraignment at the Hudson City Court, a judge ordered McNeil held at the Columbia County jail without bail, citing his two previous violent felony convictions for first-degree robbery and criminal possession of a weapon.
At the time of the robbery, McNeil was on New York State Parole, according to police.
“I commend Det. Sgt. (Jason) Finn, a 22 year veteran of HPD, for his alertness and dedication to duty,” Hudson Police Chief L. Edward Moore said.
“He was able to locate and safely apprehend a dangerous suspect. Quick action kept other Hudson citizens from being victimized.”
McNeil was scheduled to appear back in court on Thursday, Nov. 10.
